The Equation of Time is the one part of sundial theory that people always ask me about. As you’d expect, as a sundial maker, I’m comfortable with it, but I do struggle trying to explain it coherently and – to be honest – I also sometimes struggle understanding all its intricacies myself!
I often direct people to Kevin Karney’s very comprehensive explanation, which can be seen on the website here, but this is quite high brow and I fear that getting to grips with it is beyond most of us lesser mortals.
So, it was with delight that I came across this brilliant YouTube video by Michael Stevens of Vsauce. Michael goes through the reasoning and history of the Equation of Time using witty explanations and some very cool graphics, making it easy for anyone to understand.
